Who we are
Hampshire and Sussex Thatching is a family run business born from a shared passion for the ancient craft of thatching. Founded by brothers born in Portsmouth with deep roots in the south of England, we have dedicated ourselves to preserving and continuing one of Britains oldest and most iconic traditions.
Our journey began when we stepped into the world of thatching as apprentices. Working under the guidance of master thatchers across Hampshire, Sussex and the wider south of England we began learning the skills, patience and respect required for a craft that has shaped the English landscape for centuries.
From those early years, immersed in the rhythm of the seasons it was clear to us that thatching would be our lifes work. The quiet magic to the craft, the way a tired roof is brought back to life, full of character and beauty.
As brothers, we have always shared a close bond and it was only natural we would build something together. Over time we progressed from enthusiastic apprentices to master craftsman, honing our techniques and deepening our understanding of tradtional and modern thatching methods alike. We’ve worked on hundreds of roofs from quaint country cottages to listed buildings, barns and outbuildings always with the same care and dedication.
A thatched roof is a symbol of warmth, history and character. Its a statement about sustainabilty, about working with natural materials and its something that should last, not just in structure but in spirit.
At Hampshire and Sussex Thatching we take great pride in keeping this tradition alive. Every ridge we cut, every bundle we lay carries a little of our story in it and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
We are always happy to talk about our work, whether your planning a re-thatch, in need of advice or simply just curious about the process. We love what we do and were grateful for every opportunity to share it with others.
Thanks for visiting our site. We hope to work with you soon.
